Pyrolysis Plant In Africa

This case study explores how Jinzhen Machinery's pyrolysis technology is helping African businesses establish sustainable tire recycling plant operations, generating revenue while addressing critical waste management needs.

Jinzhen Machinery's Pyrolysis Plant for Africa

Jinzhen Machinery provides three types of pyrolysis plants to meet diverse customer needs:

Model Type Processing Capacity Suitable For Main Features Suitable raw material
Batch Pyrolysis Plant 1–15 tons/batch Small to medium-scale operations Low initial investment; simple operation; flexible feedstock handling Various discarded tires from vehicles; PE, PP, PS, ABS, and other plastics; drilling cuttings, tank bottom oil sludge, scum bottom mud, oil-contaminated soil, etc; Aluminum-plastic products
Semi-Continuous Pyrolysis Plant 15–20 tons/day Medium-scale commercial operations Higher efficiency; reduced downtime; better automation Rubber powder, rubber granules; PE, PP, PS, ABS, and other plastics; drilling cuttings, tank bottom oil sludge, scum bottom mud, oil-contaminated soil, etc.
Fully Continuous Pyrolysis Plant 30–50 tons/day Large-scale industrial operations 24/7 continuously operation; maximum efficiency; fully automation Rubber powder; PE, PP, PS, ABS, and other plastics; drilling cuttings, tank bottom oil sludge, scum bottom mud, oil-contaminated soil, etc.

End Products and Applications

A complete tire recycling plant in Africa produces three valuable outputs:

Pyrolysis oil

Pyrolysis oil

Used as industrial fuel for boilers, cement kilns, metal smelting, and power generation; It can be refined by a waste oil refining machine to obtain non-standard diesel oil.

carbon black

Carbon black

Used as heating fuel to replace coal;  pressed into coal balls; Deep processing.

steel wire

Steel wire

Recycled and sold to steel mills

Technical Advantages of Jinzhen Pyrolysis Equipment

1. Versatile feedstock compatibility, low investment threshold, and flexible production

Whole tires can be fed directly into the reactor without complex pre-shredding; the system can alternately process tires, waste rubber, and waste plastics. Compared to continuous systems, the initial investment for this batch pyrolysis setup is lower, the footprint is moderate, and technical requirements for operators are minimal, allowing for rapid deployment and easy maintenance.

2. Stable oil yield and high efficiency in oil-gas condensation and recovery

Equipped with a box-type condensation system that ensures thorough cooling of pyrolysis gases, the system delivers a stable oil yield from tires. Fuel oil is efficiently recovered, while non-condensable gases are recycled as fuel to reduce consumption and directly increase profit per batch.

3. Comprehensive safety features and integrated environmental protection systems

The reactor is constructed from thickened, national-standard boiler-grade steel and equipped with emergency pressure relief and alarm systems to enhance operational safety. Integrated tail-gas treatment units (desulfurization, dedusting, and deodorization) can be added as needed to control emissions and odors, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations for solid waste pyrolysis and enabling long-term, compliant operation. The system meets local environmental standards in many countries across Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East; process flow charts and technical documentation are provided to assist overseas clients with project permitting and environmental impact assessments.

4. Simple structure for easy operation and maintenance; spare parts included to minimize overseas after-sales challenges

The batch reactor features a simple overall structure, allowing local general workers to operate and maintain it independently after training. A sufficient supply of wear parts is included with the shipment, eliminating the need for repeated cross-border procurement or long waits for logistics. English operation manuals and remote video guidance are provided, and on-site installation and commissioning by technical personnel can be arranged upon request to ensure stable equipment operation.

Tanzania Case Study: From First Cooperation to Production Expansion

After noting Tanzania's abundant supply of waste tires, the client decided to launch a waste tyre pyrolysis project. The plan involves converting waste tires into tire pyrolysis oil-a high-quality heating fuel with a calorific value of 10,000–11,000 kcal/kg-and selling it directly to local mining facilities for profit.

First Cooperation (2019)

In April 2019, Jinzhen Machinery and the Tanzanian client signed their first cooperation agreement for pyrolysis equipment for Tanzania. The initial order included:

2 units of 12-ton batch pyrolysis plants for processing waste tires

1 unit of 5-ton tire oil refining equipment for upgrading pyrolysis oil to higher-value fuel products (non-standard diesel oil)

The equipment was manufactured and shipped in July 2019 to Tanzania. Jinzhen Machinery dispatched professional technical engineers to Tanzania for on-site installation guidance and commissioning, ensuring the equipment was properly set up and operational.

Pyrolysis Plant Expansion (2026)

Following years of successful operations and continued business growth, the client saw a significant rise in demand for pyrolysis products. By the end of 2025, the client decided to expand production capacity and replace specific components of the existing production line:
Replacement of core components: Upgrading the pyrolysis system (reactor) and the condensation system;
Production line expansion: Scaling up operations from 2 units to 4 (with a processing capacity of 12 tons per unit).
Factory loading and shipment: The new equipment was loaded at the Jinzhen factory in January 2026 and shipped to Tanzania.
This expansion demonstrates the client's confidence in Jinzhen Machinery's waste tire pyrolysis technology (for the Tanzania project) and underscores the substantial returns generated by the pyrolysis business.

Jinzhen machinery's 12-ton waste tyre pyrolysis machine Introduction

Jinzhen Machinery's 12-ton waste tire pyrolysis plant efficiently converts waste tires into pyrolysis oil, carbon black, and steel wire. The system integrates several core units, including the feeding system, pyrolysis system, oil-gas purification system, condensation system, and finished oil collection system. Its design philosophy aims to maximize the conversion of waste tires into high-value fuel oil.

How Does a Pyrolysis Plant in Africa Work?

Step 1: Feeding
Tires are loaded into the pyrolysis reactor manually or using automated feeding systems.
Step 2: Pyrolysis Reaction
Close the pyrolysis reactor door and heated in an oxygen-depleted environment. At this temperature, tire rubber undergoes thermal decomposition, breaking down into oil, gas, carbon black, and steel wire.
Step 3: Product Collection
Oil gas passes through a condensation system where it cools and transforms into liquid pyrolysis oil.
Carbon black is discharged through a water-cooled screw conveyor
Combustible gas is captured and recycled as fuel for the reactor
Step 4: Oil Storage and Distribution
The collected pyrolysis oil is stored in tanks and can be used directly as fuel or further refined through the distillation equipment for higher-value applications.
